Step Away From Your Inbox

I’ ve been on vacation this past week, at a writers conference in a beautiful place, and yet still navigating the urge to check my work email. It’ll reduce the backlog to click through and do a little triage, my habit urges me as the number of unopened messages grows and taunts me. When I do open them, it gives me a bit of a stomachache, and I lose the next hour or so of vacation time to work thoughts swirling in my mind.

Reminded of my difficulty disconnecting from work, I’m resolved to not look for the rest of the week.

  1. Big fan of actually taking email off of the phone and making it as tedious as possible to check it. Additionally, acknowledging the desire to check but replacing it with a different task. Like “whenever I feel the urge, I will force myself to take a walk or knock off a different non-stressful thing from the to do list. Also good to remind myself that very few things are emergencies and if one occurs email is not the mode through which I will discover it.
